Two ways to board, and one standard of care.

Everything below is how the barn actually runs. If something here does not suit your horse, we would rather you knew now than after a move.

Full Care and Partial Care.

Legacy Ranch offers Full Care and Partial Care. The difference is who provides the feed and who handles the daily stall work. Each arrangement is set out in writing before your horse arrives, so nothing is left to memory.

Full care

Legacy Ranch provides hay and grain, with grain fed twice daily. Horses have access to hay throughout the day and night, including netted round bales protected by horse-safe hay huts in the all-weather lots. Legacy Ranch cleans Full Care stalls Monday through Saturday. On Sundays, each owner cleans their horse’s stall and water bucket.

Partial care

Owners provide their horse’s hay, grain, and bedding, including enough hay for the agreed around-the-clock hay arrangement. Legacy Ranch handles the morning feeding. Partial Care owners are responsible for cleaning their horse’s stall each day.

The same barn, the same rules, the same standard around the place.

Hay available around the clock

Legacy Ranch believes horses should have access to hay throughout the day and night. In the all-weather lots, horse-safe hay huts hold netted round bales so horses can eat naturally over time. Legacy Ranch supplies hay for Full Care horses; Partial Care owners provide enough hay for their horse’s arrangement. Legacy Ranch is not accepting new boarding inquiries at this time. Visits are by appointment only.

What a day looks like.

The routine changes with the season, which is the point — it is built around what suits the horses at that time of year rather than around what is convenient.

Why we are careful about who joins us.

Legacy Ranch is our home, and the horses and people already here depend on its peace and familiar routines. We are not trying to fill every stall. We are looking for horses and owners who will be genuinely happy here. Sometimes we simply do not have space; sometimes a horse needs something another barn can provide better. We will always be honest about which it is.

What is here.

Everything was built for our own horses first, which is why the arena is attached to the barn and the lots drain the way they do.

Riding

Riding here is in the indoor arena and on the property trails. There is no outdoor arena.

The arena is shared and is not reserved for any one rider. Lessons are noted on the board so everybody knows what is happening. Boarders may bring their own instructor, who needs our approval, their own insurance and a signed agreement before they teach.

Outside the arena, the trails are open seasonally and when the ground is dry enough. In wet conditions we keep everybody on the gravel paths, which is how the ground stays good.

Helmets and proper riding footwear are required for all riding activity.

What we ask of you

Open communication above everything. Tell us about appointments, schedule changes and anything at all that concerns you — we would always rather know.

Guests arranged in advance, signed in, and accompanied by you. Children accompanied by an adult at all times. Please do not bring dogs or other pets unless approval has been given in advance. Gates left as you found them, and parking on the gravel in any weather. Picking up after yourself and after your horse. Approved, insured instructors only, arranged with us beforehand.

Before your horse arrives.

There is some paperwork to sort out first. None of it is unusual, and we would rather tell you now than surprise you the week before a move.

A current negative Coggins test. Current vaccination records. A health certificate, if your horse is coming from outside Ohio. Confirmation that your horse is on a regular deworming program.

We will also ask you about your horse — how they tie, how they are with the farrier, what they are like around machinery, their quirks, and the conditions you would rather they were not turned out in. We ask a lot of questions before a horse arrives. It is how we look after them properly once they do.

Visits are arranged.

Legacy Ranch is a private boarding facility and it is also our family home. We do not accept walk-ins or unscheduled visitors, and we do not offer public tours.
